Topsters are grids of album covers that show off your favourites — you've definitely seen these on social media. They originated on music forums like RateYourMusic and 4chan's /mu/ as a quick way to flex your taste. This tool lets you build, customise, and export them as a PNG ready to post anywhere.
Every change you make is saved automatically to your browser so your charts will still be there if you close the tab.
Standard — Fully custom grid — use the Width and Height steppers to set any dimensions from 1×1 up to 12×12. Great for any size list you have in mind.
Top 42 — The classic 6×7 format popularised on /mu/. Fixed layout, no size controls needed — just fill it in.
Top 100 — A 10×10 grid that expands into a pyramid of increasingly smaller cells toward the bottom, mirroring the traditional Top 100 poster format. Requires real commitment to fill.
About You — 24 labelled slots covering personality-style prompts: Favourite Album, Best Narrative, Favourite Cover, Bad Day Cure, Underrated, Overrated, Most Depressing, and more. Each label is editable — click it to rename. Great for sharing as a 'get to know me' music post.
Album search — Type an album name in the search bar and hit Enter or click the search button. Results are pulled from both iTunes and Last.fm simultaneously, with duplicate entries automatically merged so you don't get the same album twice.
Artist browse — Toggle the search mode to Artist to look up a specific artist. Select them from the results and you'll see their full discography listed — click any album to add it straight to your grid.
Search filters — When in Artist mode you can optionally filter by album name or year to narrow large discographies. This is especially useful for artists with extensive back-catalogues.
Adding to grid — Click any search result to add it to the next empty slot. If the grid is full, the result won't be added — remove something first.
Result quality — Cover images that are missing or placeholder-only are filtered out automatically, so you only see results with real artwork.
Rearranging — Drag any album cover to a different slot. A blue highlight shows where it will land. If you drop it onto an occupied slot, the two albums swap positions.
Touch support — On mobile or tablet, press and hold an album cover for a moment to initiate a drag — a ghost image follows your finger. Scroll edge-detection kicks in so you can drag to slots that are off-screen.
Drag from search — You can also drag directly from a search result into any grid slot without it first going into the next empty slot.
Hover actions — Hover over any filled slot and two buttons appear in the top-right corner: a blue pencil to rename the entry and a red trash icon to remove it.
Right-click — Right-clicking a filled slot opens the same rename and remove options as a context menu.
Rename — Renaming lets you customise the display name shown in the sidebar titles list. This is useful when an album title on iTunes or Last.fm is truncated or formatted oddly. Changes are saved with your chart.
Remove — Removes the album from that slot. The slot becomes empty again and can be filled by dragging or clicking a new result.
Show Titles — Toggle this on to display a numbered sidebar next to the grid listing every album and artist name. Clicking a title in the sidebar opens the rename dialog for that slot.
Show Numbers — Overlays a small number badge on each filled slot and in each empty slot so you can easily count and reference positions.
Title text & colour — Edit the chart title at the top. Click the colour swatch next to it to open a colour picker and change the title text colour.
Background colour — Click the background colour swatch to change the chart background. This affects both the live preview and the exported PNG.
Grid gap — A slider controls the spacing between cells. Drag it all the way left for a seamless zero-gap mosaic look, or add gap to give each cover breathing room.
Hide guides — Toggle grid guides off to hide the dashed borders on empty cells. Combined with zero gap, this gives the cleanest look for export.
Creating charts — Click the + button in the charts panel to create a new blank chart. Each chart has its own grid, title, colours, and settings.
Switching — Click any chart name in the charts panel to switch to it. Your current chart is saved automatically before switching.
Renaming charts — Double-click a chart name in the panel to rename it inline.
Deleting charts — Click the trash icon next to a chart to delete it. You'll be asked to confirm. You can't delete the last remaining chart — there's always at least one.
Pinning charts — Pin a chart to keep it at the top of the list so it doesn't get buried if you have many charts.
PNG export — Click the Download button (or press Ctrl/Cmd+E) to save the current chart as a high-quality PNG image. The exported file includes the title, grid, and sidebar titles if they are turned on — exactly what you see on screen.
Tip: for the cleanest export, turn off grid guides and set the gap to zero before downloading.
